Ashura (عَاشُورَاء, ) is a day of commemoration in Islam. It occurs annually on the 10th of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
The day of Ashura is well known and has more significance nowadays in the remembrance of Imam Hussein (AS).
The battle of Karbala was the military engagement that took place on the 10th of Muharram in Karbala, Iraq. The battle between the relative and companion of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), son of Caliph Ali and Sayeda Fatima (R.A.).
